Cowles has broad financial experience in the Portland market including venture capital, commercial banking , equipment leasing and SBA commercial real estate financing. Prior to returning to NSBFC, Cowles was employed by The Money Store Commercial Lending Division here in Portland. Cowles owned and operated her own small business, a railcar leasing company which also operated its own short-line railroad.

As head of NSBFC in 1996, Cowles processed more than $8.7 million in loan approvals. This dollar volume was second only to The Money Store in the Portland market. For this achievement, Cowles was named by the SBA as the Financial Advocate of the Year for 1996 for the State of Oregon.

Cowles experience as a small business owner gives her a unique perspective on the needs of small business owners in Oregon.
